It is often asked what prompted me to write this book. The answer is two-fold: my love for both children as well as academics. Children are the purest souls on earth, untouched by the self-centered materialistic world. My time spent studying law brought to my notice that while there are innumerable statutes in India dealing with and for the welfare of children, there is no single academic reference that brings within its fold all these statutes together. Hence this work. This book shall not only accomplish my dream of writing, but also prove to be indispensable to anyone who wishes to know and understand the laws prevalent in India for children. Traditionally, children were never a priority for governments worldwide as they did not possess the right to franchise and so were not part of any policy whatsoever. However, with the passage of time, the international community as well as nation-states began recognizing the evils associated with and hampering the development of children, thereby working towards setting them right.
